Education & Training
I am a clinical psychologist, licensed in New Jersey and New York. I received my BA in Psychology from UCLA in Los Angeles, CA, and my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University in New York, NY.
While in graduate school, I was privileged to train in a number of excellent psychology programs, including at Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ, and at Bellevue Hospital in New York, NY. I completed a pre-doctoral internship in psychology at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).
Throughout my education and training toward becoming a psychologist, I complemented my development as a clinician with an understanding of, and contribution to, psychological research. I believe that marrying real-world clinical experience with rigorously conducted research is the best and most effective way to help clients reach their personal goals.
During my undergraduate studies at UCLA, I assisted in conducting research in health psychology and clinical psychology. One study focused on marital satisfaction and aimed to better understand the connection between verbal communication and partners' satisfaction in their relationship. During my graduate studies at Fordham University, I conducted research in a number of areas, including a study that explored the factors that promote treatment success for clients in psychotherapy. For my doctoral dissertation, I returned to studying romantic relationships. I designed and conducted a research study examining factors that contribute to good relationship satisfaction among married couples.
My Approach to Working with Clients
I have experience treating the full range of psychological disorders, with particular emphasis on mood and anxiety disorders (e.g., depression, Bipolar Disorder, anxiety, PTSD, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), anger management, and addiction (e.g., alcohol use, drug use, food addiction, sex addiction, gambling addiction). Over the years, I have worked and trained in a variety of settings (e.g., private practice, hospitals, community agency, university counseling center, and correctional facilities) with clients from all walks of life.
I adopt an eclectic approach to working with clients, and tailor the psychotherapy to each individual. I have a particular emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which explores the manner in which our thoughts, feelings, and behavior interact to create emotional distress (and, conversely, emotional health). Above all, my focus is to help clients improve their emotional well-being and to empower them to turn their lives around in the most meaningful of ways.
When we feel good, just about anything is possible. But, when our thoughts and feelings are unhealthy, we become weighed down and limited in what we can achieve, whether professionally, in relationships, or in other endeavors.
